Metro’S ‘Rosa Parks Bus’ To Join Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day March
January 12, 2022
In addition to participating in the annual march, Metro will continue to operate regular weekday schedules, in order to continue providing bus service to members of the community who need access to employment, health care and other appointments.
CINCINNATI – Metro is proud once again this year to participate in the MLK Coalition’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day March by adding two of our newest buses to the motorcade, including the “Rosa Parks Bus,” which commemorates the historical icon and public transit’s role in the Civil Rights Movement.
“At the heart of Metro’s mission is to lift up the community by providing equitable access to jobs, education, health care and everything else they need to prosper, regardless of race, background or socioeconomic status,” said CEO and General Manager Darryl Haley. “We’ll march Monday in the spirit of that mission, which both Dr. King and Ms. Parks shared and embodied.”
The march begins at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, outside the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at The Banks and will proceed to Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine for a programmed event honoring Dr. King’s legacy.
Metro’s buses will be on-hand to assist march participants who cannot make the full walk between the Freedom Center and Washington Park. Per federal COVID-
19 regulations, individuals who choose to ride the march route with Metro will need a mask to board the bus.
Metro is pleased to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday; however, we also recognize that many businesses remain open that day. As such, all Metro and Access service will operate on regular weekday schedules Monday, Jan. 17, in order to continue providing bus service to members of the community who need access to employment, health care and other appointments.
