Metro Offers Hero Pay To Frontline Employees

June 15, 2020

Hero pay is extended as thanks for the dedication and service provided by our essential frontline employees during COVID-19
CINCINNATI – In recognition of the dedication shown by our essential frontline workers in service to our community during COVID-19, the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) board unanimously voted today to authorize $1.3 million to be used for heroes pay.

Frontline Metro & Access employees who engage with members of the public will receive this recognition for hours worked during COVID-19.

“Our operators, and the entire Metro team, work every day to serve our region. This is especially true during these challenging times,” said Darryl Haley, Metro CEO & General Manager. “We are thrilled to be able to provide this historic investment in our employees to honor their sacrifices and to reward their commitment to our community – because this experience has proven more than anything that we can tackle tough times together.”

We are proud that Metro has been able to retain every full-time employee’s 40-hour pay week throughout the pandemic, despite the drastic decline in ridership and significant loss of revenue caused by the coronavirus’ impact. This includes continued pay for the more than 100 employees who have utilized the Emergency Family Act or took sick leave to care for loved ones who may have been at risk during COVID-19.

Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 13.5 million rides per year.
