CINCINNATI – Cincinnati transit leaders are going to Washington.

Metro CEO and General Manager Darryl Haley, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 627 President Troy Miller, and Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jill Meyer will be guests at the White House Monday afternoon to witness as President Joe Biden signs into law the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, which provides the largest federal investment in the history of public transit.

“Much like Issue 7 here in Hamilton County, the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act represents the dawn of a new era of investment in public transportation,” said Haley. “To play even a small role in reaching such an historic moment is a once-in-a-lifetime honor, and I’m thrilled to see how this will help keep moving Metro forward.”

The bill provides $107 billion for public transit nationwide over the next five years. For Metro, these new dollars will be used to help fund major projects like the implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and aid us in seeking Low-No emission grants as we work toward a zero-emission fleet to reduce our carbon footprint.

Monday’s White House visit is just the latest recognition from Washington of local leaders’ tireless efforts to pass Issue 7 and implement the Reinventing Metro plan. Due to that successful campaign, Mr. Haley also was invited to testify before Congress in April in support of the infrastructure bill. Later that month, Metro collaborated with Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. Sherrod Brown to facilitate a visit and round-table discussion of the region’s infrastructure and public transit needs.

The signing is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. EST.
