Two New Routes, New Local Service And Route Simplification Among Highlights Of Upcoming Metro Service Upgrades

November 17, 2022

The five-phase Reinventing Metro plan will enter its second phase next month with a series of major service updates planned to go into effect on Sunday, Dec. 4.

CINCINNATI – The five-phase Reinventing Metro plan will enter its second phase next month with a series of major service updates planned to go into effect on Sunday, Dec. 4. Those changes will include the launch of a new route, transitioning an existing route into a new, all-day crosstown route, new local service in three Hamilton County communities, and the simplification of several, multi-branch routes.

Effective Sunday, Dec. 4, the following routes will have new schedules: Rts. 4, 5 (new service), 16, 17, 20, 23X, 24, 27, 33, 37, 43, 46, 67 (new crosstown), and 78. New schedules are now available online at www.go-metro.com/schedules.

New Routes
December’s major changes include launching the new Rt. 5, which will provide a direct connection between the Oakley Transit Center and Sharonville seven days a week. Additionally, Rt. 67 will be overhauled as a new crosstown route, connecting the Forest Park Park & Ride on Kemper Meadow Drive to the Fields Ertel Meijer store via Kemper Road seven days a week.

New Local Service
These service improvements mean the addition of new, local service to Blue Ash, Sharonville and Evendale, as well as increased frequency on additional routes:

– Rt. 43’s Evendale and Sharonville branches will be extended to serve Sharonville Plaza, while the Bond Hill branch will extend into Evendale with new, 24-hour service.
– Rt. 78 will extend to Evendale along Glendale-Milford Road to serve the Evendale Walmart.
– Rt. 4 will operate more frequent service to UC Blue Ash seven days a week.
– Rts. 16, 17 and 20 will receive more direct and frequent service to neighborhoods already served.

Consolidating Route Branches
These new routes and increased frequencies give Metro the opportunity to optimize its fixed-route network.

With improved service on Rts. 16 and 20, Metro will eliminate Rt. 15, all destinations of which are served by the other two routes with these new improvements. With existing service on Rts. 11, 19, 43, 46 and 78, Rt. 24 will no longer extend into downtown Cincinnati and instead will terminate at the Corryville Kroger. The Rt. 17-Northgate branch will absorb into Rt. 16.

Additionally, the new Rt. 5 will provide connections to Silverton and Ridge Road and will absorb those branches of Rt. 4 with its new seven-day-a-week service.
