All Metro and Access rides will operate fare-free from Sunday, March 20, through Saturday, March 26, to assist commuters struggling to accommodate rising gas prices.
CINCINNATI – You know what hasn’t increased an average of 60 cents over the last two weeks? The cost of riding Metro! That’s why next week Metro will be out in the community introducing new riders to our service and offering free fares to get them started.

“Long before the pandemic and current fuel-price challenges, Metro has always been there as an alternative to the costs and stresses of relying on a car,” said CEO and General Manager Darryl Haley. “While other systems across the country have faced the difficult decision to cut service throughout the pandemic, we have actually added service, and now our customers can get more places throughout their community than ever before.”

To help ease gas-pump sticker-shock as more people return to work in person, beginning Sunday, March 20, through Saturday, March 26, all Metro and Access routes will operate fare-free, as a “Welcome (Back)” and thank you to our loyal, new and curious customers. Throughout the week, Metro employees will circulate at Government Square and Northside Transit Center to greet customers and provide assistance as they get to know Metro.

“This is a perfect opportunity for commuters to come and get one-on-one, personalized consultation on the benefits of going Metro,” said Ridership Development Director Amy Rasmussen. “Whether you’re a commuter or an employer, now is a perfect opportunity to get to know Metro and learn how we can make your commute easier and more affordable as gas prices remain high.”

Customers also can plan their trips using the Google Trip Planner at go-metro.com or using the Transit app, which is free to download on any iOS or Android device.
